INSTRUMENTS THAT I FORMERLY OWNED

C.G. CONN F-27 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired as a gift. This guitar had a split bridge, which was stable enough, but still, I repaired it, and reinforced the bridgeplate--which worked positively to lower the action to normal. Very nice guitar. Interesting is that it has chrome Conn brand tuners--unlike the standard F-27 (which has gold hardware--Grover tuners). Also, although the label states a 1977 model, it has the 1978 oval paper label, but the 1976 headstock. Interesting combination that sounds great!  Thanks Jerry Carden. Given to Tet Reynolds (a young girl student who has shown commitment to learning). Enjoy, Tet.

GREG BENNETT (SAMICK) D-8CE 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired in exchange for work done for a customer. Nice guitar, nice sound nice range. Sold 10-22-2016.

MERIDA EXTREMA MILAGROS M65-GACES 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR

Acquired 3/11/2016 from Kingston's Music. Solid bearclaw spruce top, solid Ovankol sides and back. For Sale $750 includes deluxe hard shell case (latticework leather).

PEAVEY ROCKMASTER 6-STRING ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired 9/5/2016. From an auction site. I had been wanting to own an electric guitar...preferably a non-GIO Ibanez. But I could not pass up the deal on this one. It is simple - single humbucker, with tone and volume. It's all I really need.

SEAGULL MERLIN MAHOGANY SG, DIATONIC INSTRUMENT
Acquired this unique 4-string diatonic instrument from The Guitar World in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, while there on business It has as a solid mahogany top, rock maple body, rock maple drive-through neck. (satin finish). For reference, this instrument is about 28" long. I am learning to play it. It sounds sort of like a cross between an Appalachian dulcimer and a banjo. A fun instrument for under $150. I also bought a gig bag, and I put on a clear pick-guard (I had to cut it to shape). A lot of fun learning to play.

ROVER RM-50 ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC MANDOLIN

Acquired after being "mandolin-less" for about 5 years. I bought this because I thought I might decide to learn it and play it with the Country Sunshine band. However, I found after about 2 weeks that I could not form chords very well. It requires very limber fingers to make chords. So I realized this was fruitless. Sold it on Craigslist.

IBANEZ SR405QM 5-STRING ELECTRIC BASS

Acquired from Guitar Center in Lansing MI (via GC web site) 12-2015. This bass is the first series of this model that debuted in 2007. Several other series followed--including recent models that have 5 separate knobs instead of 3 and one stacked.  It plays great. I put D'Addario ENR71-5 Half-Round strings on it. Given to a deserving youth named Zach from Jamestown, IN, in April 2016.

CONN F-100 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from a New Yorker for whom I had (in the past) repaired a Yamaha FG-180. He bought it from ShopGoodwill, but it never played very well--it had high action, so he sent it to me for the cost of only shipping to see if I could salvage it for personal use. See repair site...I did a neck re-set on this one. It's a pretty decent guitar with DREAM action. Donated to a middle school guitar program in Frankfort, Indiana (Rockdogs) in April 2016. Asked the teacher to give away as a gift to a deserving student.

AUSTIN AA25-DWR 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired via Craigslist Listing on September 7, 2014. I never had a real need for it but got it really cheap. Traded in January 2015. Then bought back in September 2015. Lowered the action on it, and it plays like butter. Sold on March 13, 2016.

SQUIRE VINTAGE MODIFIED JAGUAR V - 5-STRING ELECTRIC BASS
Acquired in trade. I used my below DXK2 Martin guitar in trade for this bass (even trade for the bass and a Fender tweed case). My goal was to "graduate" to 5-string bass. I'd only played one a few times, and certainly never owned one, Mostly I had always played 4-string. The Squire Jaguar ("Jag") is a premium instrument for the $$$ but after having it a short time I realized that the neck was too wide for my small hands. So I researched and found a few models of 5-string bass that had significantly narrower necks, and sold the Jag for cash to a Craigslist buyer (Chad).

 C.F. MARTIN DXK2 ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired in trade. I traded my Alvarez AD70S and cash for this guitar at IRC Music. All composite (internal bracing is wood). Simulated Koa. Traded even to Jim P. on 11/22/2015 for his Seagull Entourage Rustic CW-Q1.

SEAGULL ENTOURAGE RUSTIC CW-Q1 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR

Acquired in an even trade with friend Jim P. Although it does not sound as good as the Martin that I traded away, it is a well-made guitar (made by Godin in La Patrie, Canada), and has the Godin Quantum Q1 electronics--giving me more flexibility to sing and play with the Sunshine Band. When I traded my Martin I figured I could put some bright strings on this guitar and get the tone quality that I am after. Jim bought this only 3 months ago, so I think it was a fair trade.

ALVAREZ AD70S ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired in April at R&R Music. Traded in July for Martin DXK2. It was nice...solid spruce top, rosewood sides and back.

CONN F-27 ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired January 2015. Given away.

YAMAHA FG-150 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired as a gift from a generous person in Maryland in 2014. Given away.
YAMAHA G231 6-STRING CLASSICAL GUITAR
Acquired 10/18/2014. Given to Don Thronburg 3-16-2015

ART & LUTHERIE WILD CHERRY 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR Acquired via Craigslist from Kansas/Western Missouri. This one I fixed up and then decided to sell. It did sound pretty amazing but I decided to swap it for an acoustic amp.

GIBSON EB-0 BASS (Modified)
Acquired 9/25/2014 from Mike. This bass has been extensively modified by the prior owner--effectively ruining its vintage value. But the mods are good ones...and add versatility to the bass. For one, the frets are removed, and it is now a fretless bass (you can see where they were for help in hitting the notes correctly). I made some improvements to the poorly done mods by re-routing wiring, cleaning out the cavity, and working on the nut, then installing new strings. Done and playable!!!

BREEDLOVE PASSPORT C250/ME-FS 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Guitar Center. It was a customer remediation effort by Guitar Center Hazelwood, MO to apologize for bad treatment, poor dealings, a general "cannot do" attitude, and rudeness. I got it in 2012. I almost immediately traded it to Don in Northern California for a Yamaha FG470SA and a Casa Perez classical that he had. Later, I traded my Martin DX1R for this back. Then November 8, 2014, after learning of an acquaintance, Jen Roberts, whose Yamaha CPX-series guitar was stolen out of her car outside of her home, I gave her this guitar.

CASA PEREZ CLASSICAL

This Mexican-made classical is still shown here, because it is still in my possession, but I have decided to give it to Aaron. It is hand built, and is a high quality solid wood beauty, with amazing sound. It was a bonus sent after a trade where my friend in Northern California felt guilty after I traded him a brand new Breedlove C-50 AE for the Yamaha FG470SA shown below.  So he sent me this. Only a retouched label photo from inside is shown here (with translation added in small block letters). Woods are identified on the label.

KAY K-7005 6-STRING CLASSICAL GUITARAcquired from business that was closing doors. 1968 Model. Sold on Craigslist November 2 2014.

CONN C-11 6-STRING CLASSICAL GUITAR
Acquired from Goodwill. Cleaned, new strings, new saddle (bone). 1974 model. Sold on eBay October 30, 2014.

DANVILLEPREMIUM BLUEGRASS BANJO
This is a "Danville" brand banjo. It was for sale at Brownsburg Guitar. I had recently decided to learn banjo, and Jerry Ackley committed to teach me. So I needed one, but hadn't planned to buy one. When I went into Brownsburg Guitar to put my 12-String (Fender CD-160SE-12--see far above) on consignment, I ended up just swapping it for the banjo. This was on January 7, 2011.

OSCAR SCHMIDT OE-30 DELTA KING ELECTRIC JAZZ GUITARAcquired from Don Thronburg in a trade.

YAMAHA FG403S ACOUSTIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from SGW Springfield IL, for a song. Just had to go pick it up. Great-sounding (almost as good as my Martin).

TAYLOR 114 ACOUSTIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar in trade for my Conn CSE-5.

VENTURA V-27 ACOUSTIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar in trade. I traded my Ovation CS257 for it. This one had beautiful brass saddle and bridge pins. Made in Japan.

OVATION CS257 ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar for $250 (a consignment). Traded for the above Ventura.

MARTIN DX1R 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. This one I swapped two guitars and some cash for. Traded to Don Thronburg for Oscar Schmidt OE-30 and my Breedlove C250 back. Actually got this back from Don in 2015. See "Current Instruments".

YAMAHA APX700 ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from eBay seller in Idaho. Nice sound. Sold to Mike at Brownsburg Guitar. Last owner was Ben Halsey.

FENDER STANDARD 4-STRING P-BASS
Acquired from where else??? Brownsburg Guitar. Acquired in addition to the below Yamaha in exchange for a Takamine F360S.

YAMAHA F700S 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from you know who Brownsburg Guitar. Acquired in a trade with the above P-Bass in exchange for my Takamine F360S.

TAKAMINE F360S ACOUSTIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from Six-Strings Down (Plainfield). I traded three instruments for this. It was touted to be the "Holy Grail" of vintage guitars. Threatened lawsuit from Martin due to the headstock logo and obvious copying of design patterns. I traded this to Brownsburg Guitar and got the above two instruments.

SEAGULL S-6 ORIGINAL 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. Traded this guitar for the above Takamine F360S (along with a Squire VM Jag Bass, and a Fender CF140S).

SQUIRE VINTAGE MODIFIED JAGUAR 4-STRING BASS
Acquired from a trade with a Craigslist seller. I traded my Squire Classic Vibe 60's Jazz Bass (two down) for this and the Epiphone Les Paul Special II shown below. I got two guitars for one...not bad.

EPIPHONE LES PAUL SPECIAL II ELECTRIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from a trade. I got both this guitar and the above Jaguar bass in exchange for my Squire Classic Vibe 60's Jazz Bass.

EPIPHONE DOVE 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. I traded my Austin and $50 for this solid top beauty. But I wasn't overly impressed with the sound quality...so away it went.

WASHBURN WD25SCE SOLID TOP ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from Musician's Friend. Got a great price on this through a price-match. The company also bought my Martin DC-1 (next down) and I didn't pay much out of pocket for this beauty. Again, though, like the Epiphone above--disappointing sound quality.

YAMAHA G60A 6-STRING CLASSICAL GUITAR
Acquired from Samuel Music in Sprinfield IL enroute home from Hannibal MO. I was wanting a decent classical guitar, and this one was only $70 and included a case. It was an amazing sounding classical, and so I went home with it. I ended up giving it to the youth pastor from my church for his wife, Hillary.

FENDER CD140SCD 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar (cheap) because the electronics did not work. I took it to R&R and paid $15 for them to fix the preamp battery housing, and it worked. I ended up taking back to Brownsburg Guitar and putting on consignment. Sorry for the horrible image.

ART & LUTHERIE CEDAR 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar for cash. Had this for quite a bit longer than others. It sounded really good.

YAMAHA APX500 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. I swapped my Fender Sonoran for this, plus $50. It was a great guitar, but I decided I was too focused on possessions, and decided to let it go to the hands of Jake--a young player who seemed to like it. Sold it to him about a month or two after I got it.

MARTIN DC-1 ACOUSTIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. I traded even my Taylor 214ce. This is the guitar I sold to Musician's Friend to get the Washburn (up above).

YAMAHA CG171SF FLAMENCO GUITAR
Acquired from Craigslist seller in Chicago. On my way to Minneapolis, I stopped and bought this. Later sold on eBay.

TAYLOR 214ce 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Craigslist seller in Alton, IL. Traded even my newly acquired Seagull Performer (see below). Ended up trading this for the Martin DC-1 above. I went through these three guitars within a week.

FENDER SONORAN 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. The reason I bought this was because I like the case. I had it one day and swapped it with $50 for the Yamaha APX500 above.

SEAGULL PERFORMER MAPLE 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from R&R Music Central for a Conn F2712 and cash. I bought this because I was looking for a high-end Seagull after getting disappointed in a search to re-acquire a Takamine EG460SCE. But I was disappointed so when I saw the listing for the Taylor 214ce, I jumped on it.

TAKAMINE EG523SC-12 ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC 12-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. I saw it in the shop, and Mike (the owner) said he would trade me even for the Taylor GS Mini that I had. So I did it, with the thought of giving this to a good friend who wanted a 12-String but might not ever otherwise own one this nice.

TAYLOR GS-MINI 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar for cash. This is a great sounding little 3/4 size guitar. It sounds like a big one. Not sure how Taylor does that, but they do. Traded it for the above Takamine.

TAKAMINE EG523SC 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Guitar Center in Hazelwood, MO. I found this and it had damage to the side, so it was deeply discounted. I fixed that, but found that the action was horrible. By the time I had it set up at Guitar World in Greenwood, I paid almost full price. I had been looking for one of these, but after that ordeal I had a bad taste in my mouth. I ended up trading down to a Yamaha FX series guitar and took an additional $50.

MICHAEL KELLY N5012SDEN ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC 12-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from an eBay seller. I had looked at Michael Kelly guitars with some interest for some time, and was in the market for a 12-String after I got rid of my Fender. However, I was unaware that this 12-string came in acoustic-electric configuration. So I jumped on it when I saw it. I had this guitar for a long time--eventually trading it for a Tradition 4-String Bass (see "Current Instruments").

SQUIRE CLASSIC VIBE 60'S JAZZ BASS
Acquired from R&R Music for cash. I needed a decent bass to play with "the Scott Miller band", so I found this one for a great price at R&R. They also gave me a 10% church discount.

YAMAHA CG111S 6-STRING CLASSICAL GUITAR
Acquired from a Craigslist seller in Hazelwood MO.

ARIA TA-50 6-STRING ELECTRIC JAZZ GUITAR
Acquired from Schmitt Music in Minneapolis via eBay. I went to MN to pick this up late in December. I had to go to Wisconsin on business during Christmas break, so I went to MN and got this rather than have it shipped. I sold it to Mike at Brownsburg Guitar to pay for the Michael Kelly 12-string above.

SEAGULL S-6 SLIM Q1 ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from R&R Music Central for cash. Sold about a year later for cash to pay for the disappointing Takamine EG523SC at Guitar Center in Missouri.

MARTIN DX1 ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from R&R Music Central in exchange for my Seagull Artist Studio which had been in their shop on consignment for about 3 months. I thought it would be cool to own a Martin, but this one was a disappointment. I ended up selling in Lafayette on consignment at Klavarenga Music for $400.

AUSTIN AA50D-S ACOUSTIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from R&R Music Central in exchange for my Washburn D10ST and my Yamaha G245S. Even trade. I kept this guitar for a long time--finally trading it for an Epiphone Dove about 2 years later.

BREEDLOVE AC25/SR PLUS 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Brownsburg Guitar. It was on consignment, and I made payments on it. Eventually sold to Kolby Bath.

IBANEZ SOUNDGEAR GIO GSR100 4-STRING BASS
Acquired from R&R Music Central. Paid $80 for it. Bought it to play with Scott Miller at Eagle Church Avon.

FENDER CD160S-12 ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC 12-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from IRC Music. This was a factory warranty replacement for my Fender JG12CE 12-String guitar, which had developed a problem that was covered under the lifetime warranty.

McCULLOUGH MODEL FS 6-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from Mel McCullough. He had taken this guitar back in on trade, and was planning to fix it up and sell it. The finish was not ideal, but the guitar was very nice. It was built to simulate the Martin 00-15 from the 40's. The woods were all solid--mahogany back and sides, solid bear-claw spruce. Lots of problems getting a good finish on it. I bought it for $400 and worked it off. Later I decided to sell it. Mel found a buyer for it, and sold it, but kept the money to fix his water pump in his vehicle. He paid me a few payments later, but I tired of asking him for the money, and he never really paid me what he owed me for it.

YAMAHA FG180 (NIPPON GAKKI RED LABEL) 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Ryan--who was preparing to deploy to Iraq. Ryan sold this to me as he was preparing to leave, and I promised him that I'd keep it and not sell it in case he decided when he returned from his tour of duty that he wanted it back. It is a Nippon Gakki Red-Label model. I did not know the significance of the red label when I bought it. You can learn more about this subject by Googling Nippon Gakki Red Label (or just click here>>> "Nippon Gakki Red Label"). I was mainly captivated by its age, and the fact that I'd never considered owning a Yamaha. I had done some research on the brand and learned that they had been around for many many years--back before the 60's. I read a lot of reviews, and owners who posted reviews seemed to really like them. I had reached a point where I decided to look for an inexpensive one so I could "try one out". So when I found this one on Craigslist, I figured that it was a perfect opportunity to get one for a reasonable price. It is a laminated guitar but you would never know it. It sounds like a dream, and was one of my favorite 6-strings. I have catalogue data from Yamaha that tells me it was probably made in 1971. I bought it from Ryan in September 2008 as he was preparing to leave for active duty. When Ryan returned from active duty, I offered it back to him. He did not want it. So along came a guy attending youth group at my church. His name was Eric Rippy (sp). He attended for awhile and seemed like a nice guy. I offered it to him for sale around the first of November 2009, and offered to give him free lessons. He decided he wanted to buy it but said he was between jobs. So I let him take it with the promise to pay me later. I didn't offer it for $300--the price they were going for at the time, but for only $100--the cost I had in it. It was a real steal, and I guess Eric knew that because that is exactly what he did. After a month or so, I never saw Eric or the guitar again. Stolen in November 2009. Serial No 1355337--Currently listed in the Stolen Guitar Registry.

OSCAR SCHMIDT OE30 DELTA KING 6-STRING ELECTRIC JAZZ GUITAR
Acquired from an eBay seller. I was on my way to Iowa, and had been tracking this guitar on eBay, but when I arrived at my destination, I found I'd miscalculated the time, and missed out on bidding. Fortunately it did not sell. I wrote to the seller, explaining my situation. The seller agreed to sell it to me for $150 total (including shipping). I was pleased. Nice guitar.

TAKAMINE EG460SCE ACOUTIC-ELECTRIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from Musician's Friend. Sold because I was strapped for cash. This is one I wish I still had.

FENDER CD220SC 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Sweetwater Music.

SEAGULL ARTIST STUDIO 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from R&R Music Central.

WASHBURN D10S 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Goodwill Indianapolis. This one had damage, that I fixed. Sold to Ken Stecher.

FIRST ACT MG431 6-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Goodwill. Sold to Broad Ripple hair salon.

MICHAEL KELLY VIBE 6-STRING ELECTRIC JAZZ GUITAR
Acquired from Arthur's Music Store. Traded my Jackson plus $150 cash.

STAGG (MODEL UNKNOWN) 6-STRING ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Acquired from Goodwill Long Beach.

HAMER SLAMMER SB4F SHORT-SCALE BASS
Acquired from Craigslist Illinois seller. This was in mint condition and was my first bass.

TAKAMINE G260BL ACOUSTIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from eBay seller 'theguitarfactory'.

FENDER JG12SC-12 12-STRING ACOUSTIC-ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from R&R Music Central. I sold my Squire SA1, my Fender MIM Strat, a case, and some other items, and paid the balance in cash. Nice guitar, but laminated top. Paid $469 for this--too much!!! Eventually the bridge lifted, and I got it replaced under warranty by the far above CD160SE-12 12-string.

JACKSON D10X ELECTRIC 6-STRING GUITAR
Acquired from R&R Music central. Traded, with $150 for the above Michael Kelly vibe.

FENDER STRATOCASTER MIM 6-STRING ELECTRIC GUITAR
Acquired from my sister. Was in terrible condition, but I fixed it up. It sold on consignment to pay for my Fender 12-String at R&R for $149. Rather low I would say. This guitar was my entry back into guitar playing. Later I bought a Squire SA1. That was a bad purchase.

FENDER PRINCETON CHORUS PR82 50W ELECTRIC GUITAR AMPLIFIER
Acquired September 2016 from a Craigslist seller in Anderson, IN. 50 Watts through two 10" speakers.

GALLIEN-KRUEGER MB115 200-WATT BASS AMP
Acquired 1-17-2015 from Kingston's Music Showcase. This amp is the nicest bass amp (any amp) I've owned. It is brand new, and features 200 Watts output, through a single 15" speaker. Great Amp. Traded even for a Gallien Krueger MB112. Same basic 200W amp, but smaller size with 12" speaker versus this one's 15" speaker.

CRATE CA30D TAOS ACOUSTIC GUITAR AMPLIFIER
Acquired March 2015.

FENDER 15G PRACTICE AMP

Acquired from a Craigslist seller from Kokomo in January 2015.

AMPEG BA108 BASS AMP
Purchased in Avon August 2014.

PEAVEY VYPYR VIP 2 40-WATT MODELING AMP
I traded two amps for this one. I was out looking for an Ampeg or Gallien-Krueger 20-50 Watt amp, and the first place I went was to R&R Music Central (Brownsburg). They demonstrated this amp to me. It is versatile. It has channels for using bass, acoustic-electric, or straight electric guitar and can be plenty loud with its single 12" speaker. I've been pretty pleased with it.

UNICORD STAGE 65 - 65-WATT AMP
Acquired from Goodwill.com (see photo). This vintage amp boasts 65 watts of power, and has had modifications. It has a Pyle-Driver 12" speaker, and has had the effects pedal input on the back replaced to become a line out for another cabinet. The fuse plug on the back was bypassed, and an in-line fuse was soldered inside. I restored the original fuse configuration, and de-soldered the speaker wires from the speaker, and changed them to spade plugs (as they were originally). This amp has a loud buzz when turned on. I'm sure someone knows exactly what causes that, but I do not know. I'm sure it is an amazing sounding amp, but don't know yet. I have the speaker for sale, but if it doesn't sell before I get the amp fixed, I'll probably just keep this amp.
